The European “Green Building” Directive requires buildings to meet two main needs:
1. they must be powered as much as possible by renewable energy sources and
have zero non-renewable energy consumption, moving from the so-called
nZEB (Nearly Zero Energy) buildings to ZEB (Zero Energy Building),
2. they must guarantee harmful gas emissions (CO2) equal to or close to zero.
With the new Decree on Minimum Environmental Criteria (CAM), the materials
with low environmental impact is encouraged throughout their life cycle, from
production to final disposal, thus promoting the concept of circular economy.
The use of “sustainable materials” is important for a green building.
These materials must limit total energy consumption in a balanced way along
the entire construction chain, contributing to the reduction of CO2 emissions.
Regarding the need to guarantee a balance between the component of sustainability :
environment, economy and society.
